Central Asia Widow Needs Our Prayers

Open Doors International is asking for prayer for a Christian woman, Dina*, a widow from an area of Central Asia where Islam is extreme.

Dina lives in extreme poverty, with two children and her ill, immobile mother in a small unheated room. There is no running water, and both the water tap and toilet are located outside.

The room belongs to Dina’s brother, who is a strict Muslim. He wants to expel her from the room, but he hasn’t yet done so because their mother lives with Dina and he doesn’t want to have to care for her.

He hates his sister for following Christ, and frequently tells others: “Let her Jesus help her.” Dina has Hepatitis C, which she caught from her husband, who died several years ago from drugs.

Her 9-year-old daughter has the same illness, and they desperately need money for expensive  treatment and medication.

Dina works at a Christian school as a teacher, but doesn’t make enough money to afford the medication. All her relatives are wealthy Muslims who abuse her for her faith, saying, “She has many sisters and brothers in her church; let them help her.”

She believes that God will release her from her hard circumstances and heal her daughter and herself. She acts strong, but in fact she is about to fall apart, and needs our prayer support.

Name changed for security reason*

  • Pray for healing for Dina and her daughter, and that they will have the money for the medication that they need.
  • Pray for relief from the harassment from her family, and that, through her faith and witness, her relatives may come to faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for the many other Christians in Central Asia who face  similar circumstances, ostracised by their families and communities for their faith and struggling to find work or to feed their families.
  • Pray for a move of the Holy Spirit over this region of the world, for many to encounter Christ over this Christmas time and come to know His truth and grace and healing.

Psalm 68 vs 5: “Father of orphans and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation.”
