Historic Gospel Rally Held In Myanmar
Over the last few years, Myanmar has being making the transition from a military dictatorship to a newly emerging democracy. However, a study in 2014 by the Pew Research Centre, found that there is still a high degree of government restriction on religion and religious freedom.
With this in the background, the Myanmar Evangelical Christian Association and Teen Mania, a US based group, held historic rally in the capital city of Yangon over 24th and 25th July this year.
More than 13,000 Myanmar youth gathered for this rally, and around 3,000 young people committed their lives to Christ, in what was the first national event to be held for youth in Myanmar, according to Teen Mania founder and President Ron Luce.
Luce says the worship experience was stunning.
“The sounds of around 13,000 people worshipping in both Burmese and English, dancers from every tribe in Myanmar moving in praise at the beginning of each evening … it felt a lot like heaven.”
- Give thanks that this rally was given permission to be held in Myanmar, and for the thousands of lives touched and transformed by the Gospel over the two days.
- Pray for those who gave their lives to Christ, for good follow up by local believers, who can walk with them in discipleship. Pray for their protection in a country still hostile to Christians.
- Pray for the growth of the Myanmar church, the spread of the Gospel in this land, that its people will come to know true freedom through Christ.
