Kyrgyz Believers Forced to Leave their Village
Recently, a group of Christian believers from different parts of Kyrgyzstan visited a Christian family in their village.
Janysh* and Laura* (real names protected for security reasons) are the only Christian couple in the village, and always take opportunities to share the gospel with their neighbours.
The couple run an outreach ministry from their home, including showing the “Jesus” film, and after a recent showing, they presented the gospel to four families from their village.
However, three days after the gospel presentation, two intoxicated men started screaming near the home of Janysh. They shouted that Janysh and Laura were infidels who had disgraced the Muslim religion, and threw stones into the house.
The next day, a group of 10 people came and asked Janysh to come out of the house telling him that he should confess that he was following an “alien” religion, or be forced to leave the village with his family.
The next day, an imam of the local mosque came to talk with Janysh and Laura, and also tried to make them renounce their faith in Jesus Christ.
With the situation escalating to violence, the couple decided to leave their village with their children. They hope to eventually return.
- Pray for Janysh and Laura and their children, for peace and protection over this family, and for reconciliation with their village so that they can return home.
- Give thanks for their boldness to present the gospel to their community. Pray that seeds that have been sown will reap a harvest of righteousness in this village and many will come to know the truth of Jesus Christ.
- Pray for the village leaders, including the Imam, to encounter Jesus and turn to follow Him. Pray for full reconciliation and restoration of good relationships in this village.
- Pray for the Church in Kyrgyzstan, as it struggles with growing pressure from Muslim communities and the government.
