Meriam Yahia Ibrahim

Yesterday we reported that Meriam Yahia Ibrahim, a Sudanese believer from a Muslim background, who was sentenced to death on 15th May for apostasy, had been released from prison.

We regret to report that earlier today (24th June) the Sudanese National State Security detained Meriam, along with her husband, Daniel, and two young children, at the airport in Khartoum while they were attempting to leave the country. The Sudanese authorities have not yet given a reason for the family’s detention.

Recall that Meriam was sentenced to death for apostasy and to 100 lashes for adultery on 15th May. Yesterday (23rd June) the Appeals Court overturned that conviction on procedural grounds. Meriam was released from prison, together with their son, Martin, and newborn daughter, Maya.

Christians supporting this family request our prayer that:
a. Meriam, Daniel, Martin and Maya will be released from the detention center
b. They will know the peace, presence and comfort of Jesus as they face on-going pressure from the authorities
c. They will know the Spirit’s guiding as they seek to move away from Sudan
d. Christians across Sudan, and especially those from Muslim backgrounds, will know the Father’s protection as they live for him, and be strengthened to live without fear
e. All officials involved will love mercy, act justly, learn about Jesus and choose to follow Him.
