Pray for Northern Iraq.
Open Doors International is asking for urgent prayer for Northern Iraq.
The situation there is far from stable. As one of Open Door’s sources in the country says: “Just now, I heard that a cell of self-proclaimed Islamic State has been arrested in Erbil. Some days ago, a cell of ISIL was discovered and arrested in Sulaymaniyah. They found many guns, ammunition and explosives in several houses.
“For several days now, there have been violent demonstrations half-way between Sulaymaniyah and Halabja. The people inside Erbil are afraid that ISIL plans an attack against Erbil. People are really concerned and afraid. In the news here in Iraq, I read that ISIL is building its troops in another area of the frontline with the Kurdish region: the Peshmerga is worried that they are planning a massive attack.”
Please pray for the situation in Northern Iraq. This source asks. “There are too many serious news items making its rounds, only giving more ground to people wanting to flee, Kurds as well as Christians. Please pray for something good to happen, so that people might have trust again to stay.”
- Pray for Iraq, especially the northern region at this time. Pray for peace in place of fear in the hearts of the people there.
- Pray for Christians in Northern Iraq, for protection over their families and homes, and for their witness to their neighbours, that many will come to know Jesus in this region.
- Pray that ISIL will not gain an foothold in this region.
- Pray for peace across Iraq, and for renews trust, hope and healing for the Iraqi people.
Psalm 85 vs 8: “Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.”
